Usually. They heard about a little Halloween-themed festival happening on campus and agreed to go explore it together, in costume! There's a little student-made haunted house in the student union building and even trick or treating in faculty offices. A few parties were happening both on- and off-campus in dorms, Greek Row, and private houses. Vincent's dorm hosts one which he, of course, invites Hayun to attend. There's silly Halloween music, bobbing for apples, Halloween trivia, a costume contest and other activities. And, sure, there's some booze to be had and no one's checking IDs.
Vincent's spent the whole day dressed as a mushroom.

The Halloween parties around campus are some of the few that actually do sound like fun. Or maybe they just sounds like a run of the mill Halloween party and hanging out with Vincent is what sounds like fun. He also trusts that Vincent's tastes, though, are close enough to his own that he won't be lead astray. So he, of course, agreed without a second thought. And even if they don't end up at any of those, there's so much else to do!
Hayun was dying to go into the haunted house (despite the fact that he really doesn't like being scared!) so he suggested he and Vincent meet in front of there. Hayun shows up dressed as a fairy, because the colours were simply too hard to resist, with temporary blue and purple streaks in his pastel pink hair. A surprisingly good match for his mushroom clad friend, whose hand he takes the moment he gets close enough to where Vincent is waiting.
"Sorry I'm late." He's not. He just prefers to be places a little earlier than he needs to.
no subject
"You're not late, silly," Vincent chides through a smile. "I'd forgive you if you were, so it doesn't matter."
Bouncing a little on his feet, Vincent cranes to look at Hayun's wings, too. "You're so cute! I can't believe we kind of match... thematically, at least. No one will believe we didn't plan it." And he's perfectly okay with that.
He gives Hayun's hand a gentle squeeze and looks toward the haunted house. He doesn't like horror movies, but haunted houses? They have rules and the actors aren't allowed to touch you, so it's okay. It'll be a fun kind of scared. "Shall we try it?"

He's barely out the door to make the trek back to his precious little strawberry dorm when he spots none other than his friend Rai! Rai, who doesn't necessarily belong heading in the direction of campus because, well, he's not a student. Is he here to check out the festivities, too? Despite his aching feet, Vincent perks up instantly, waving happily.
"Rai! What are you doing here?"
no subject
It isn't until the end of the night when it seems that Vincent is finally headed home that Rai spots him. Cute as always. It feels odd to be out in search of one specific human. Not a specific type of human, someone with a specific age or appearance or whatever, but one person in specific. This one person in specific.
"I'm here looking for you."

"Did you see all the stuff going on? It's so fun!"

And visits? Those are planned, too.
But not this one. This one is completely spontaneous. And the first time Yohan's made himself at home in the apartment he provided for Hayun. Usually, he stays in a hotel, but tonight he wants to surprise Hayun. The giant plush mushroom is not something he expected, but somehow it suits Hayun. Without knowing when Hayun would be back (he knows it won't be late because that's just not how Hayun is), he simply makes himself at home.
So when Hayun does come home, he'll find Yohan in pajamas, chilling in the plushroom reading the French copy of The Little Prince.
no subject
With wings in hand, Hayun unlocks the door to his apartment and steps inside. That there's a light coming from the living room area doesn't immediately strike him as odd. He just assumes he accidentally left it on in his eagerness to meet up with Vincent. He'll be more careful next time. The last thing he wants to do is to be disrespectful to Yohan and run up the electricity bill unnecessarily.
Speaking of Yohan, Hayun grabs his phone and starts to type up a text for him, describing the day he just spent with his friend in great detail. The things they did, the costumes he saw. Cute decorations and fun foods. Oh and he has pictures too, don't worry! He doesn't even get through half of what he intends to say, though, when he practically jumps out of his skin and everything he's holding goes tumbling to the floor with a startled gasp. When all of his visits are pre-planned, coming home to someone being here out of nowhere is a shock. And when Yohan's next visit hadn't even come up in conversation yet meaning Hayun expected it to not be for a bit yet, having his boyfriend lounging in his living room (and looking so cute and attractive in his pyjamas, sitting in the big plush mushroom) was just about the last thing he expected to come home to.
"Yohan!" To say that Hayun sprinted across the room (once he got past the shock) does a disservice to the speed with which he closed that distance. He throws himself down onto the older man (deftly avoiding the book. It's not strong enough to be on the receiving end of Hayun's excitement), wrapping arms and legs, both, around Yohan. Full body hug. Hayun missed him. He always misses Yohan. A downside to his college life. "I'm so glad you're here! Why didn't you tell me you were coming? I would've come home sooner."
no subject
"Surprise~" is his simple answer to the question. He's careful to set Hayun's book down before wrapping his arm like an equally determined octopus around Hayun. He smiles so fondly at Hayun, finally reaching up to brush his fingers through the boy's hair. "You look adorable. I wanted to see for myself."

So they picked a time and place to meet, some party one of the people in Seung's study group is hosting. He didn't tell Jay what he'd be wearing. It's a ridiculous costume, to be sure. Jay will either find it amusing or absolutely distasteful. At least Seung's giving him a reason to bail on the party if they argue or just hit another bump.
The party's in one of those houses rented to grad students near campus. Five or six people live there; Seung only vaguely knows three of them. It's decorated inside and out with dollar store decorations. A for effort, at least. There's festive food and drinks a-plenty. Seung's got a beer in each hand and he's watching the door for Jay's arrival.
no subject
Jay Ubers to the address that he'd gotten from Seung earlier in the day. The address of people he doesn't know. For a party where he's not likely to know anyone except for Seung. Honestly, it feels like no smarter an idea than spending a whole weekend alone at Seung's place. Being surrounded by people really makes no difference at the end of the day.
Stepping into the strangers' home, Jay pulls off his jacket and hands it to some scantily clad girl who offers to put it with the rest of the jackets for him. He should watch where she takes it. He doesn't. He's already on the lookout for Seung, something made a little more difficult by the fact that they didn't discuss costumes. Anyone with dark hair and a good body could be Seung until they turn around and he's able to see their face. Jay, himself, is wearing a costume that's probably a little ridiculous too for an entirely different reason, with the biggest reason of all being that he chose it for Seung.
If Seung ever learned just how space he takes up in and around Jay's thoughts, he'd never live it down. Jay would never hear the end of it. If they get to a better place, that is. Currently, he feels like he's under the protection of Seung's attempts to prove that he's sorry for what happened between them.
Jay makes his way a little further inside, saying hello and introducing himself to some people, pretending he doesn't speak English to others. The whole time, at least half of his attention is on the rest of the room, looking for Seung. He pauses when he's certain that he sees him (like, actually certain this time) wearing what, from this distance, looks like the most ridiculous costume of the entire party.
How very Seung.
no subject
Seung's been at the party since it began. Since the host some of the hosts are in his study group, he didn't feel weird showing up early on. It also gives him a chance to stake out a place to best watch the door. Even waiting for Jay, he's completely unprepared when Jay walks in dressed like that. He may not look it in clothes, but Jay's lithe and lean, not just thin. You'd think knowing that body as well as Seung does that the mere site of so much it wouldn't leave him breathless.
And yet.
He watches the girl wander off with Jay's coat before beginning the walk over to greet him. With his offering of beer and a soft smile. Maybe some large part of him is hoping Jay won't want to stay for long. They can find some other party or a bar or... head back to one of their own apartments.
"You must be cold."

Probably the most taxing task, however, belongs to the one person every year who's chosen to go deep into the woods to the dragon's river, and convince him to join in the festivities.
Every year, Nam refuses. Some years, he goes anyway. Every year, he mentions the festival to a certain bird and some years, he goes just in case that certain bird shows up. Of course it's not just about Gaja as Nam does like to occasionally be near the people he's gotten to know over the years in a more relaxed setting, but it's also not not about Gaja.
It's just after dark when Nam emerges from the woods and makes his way into town. Nam immediately stands out among the festival attendees, as he is not in costume as they are, but he is most certainly dressed up. His penchant for long, flowing clothing strikes once again with bold make up around his eyes continues the red and gold motif. Perhaps most striking of all is that he's not sporting his usual long, ashy blond hair but rather something shorter. And bright red.
Please make no mention of the fiery bird appearance he seems to have crafted.
If (when) Gaja arrives, he'll find Nam near the bonfire, complimenting costumed children on their choice of attire, paying special attention to those who've chosen to come to the festival as dragons.
no subject
Coincidentally, Gaja foregoes his usually golds and fiery colors for celebratory events in favor of shimmering blues and silvers (reminiscent of a certain dragon's scales in the water). Despite his dislike of the cooler temperatures, he chose something thin and ethereal with understated makeup (bearing a touch of his gold). While Nam's hair is bright and fiery, Gaja's has begun to fade. Is it getting close to that time already? You'd never guess it from the way he positively lights up when he sees Nam.
"Your hair!!" Insert Spiderman pointing meme here.
i was unable to find the typo. i am a failure :(
Looking down at and quietly speaking with some small children who are petting and admiring his clothing, Nam shoos them away when he notices Gaja's approach. He's initially thrown off by Gaja's clothing choice. It's unlike what Nam's come to expect from him and far closer to something that Nam, himself, might choose. He looks absolutely stunning in the blues and silvers (the similarities to the colours of his own natural form don't escape him), especially with the way his hair has begun to fade. Gaja often tries to hide it but Nam's always thought it looks wonderful on him.
"In the spirit of the festival, I thought I might change my appearance a little." As though a dragon appearing a human isn't enough of a change already. "What do you think?"
"something thing and ethereal"

The natural cycles of the world have always been and will always be important to the Fae. Seelie and Unseelie alike, the Wheel of the Year dictates much. The light half of the year is presided over by the Seelie, while the Unseelie take power in the dark half. Spring and Summer, light and fertility are the Seelie’s domain. Autumn and Winter, dark and harsh cold belong to the Unseelie. This is the legacy of Kellan’s line: ruling over the world in the harshest of conditions, in the time of darkness, of cold, and of death.
And yet, the Unseelie revel in their time. The balance of power shifts at to them at Mabon, the Autumn Equinox, one of the quarter days of the year. From that day onward, they live and celebrate the Via Nocturna, the Path to Night. It is the fifty-six days between the start of Autumn and the longest night of the year. This night is both a celebration and a memorial for the Unseelie as it marks the pinnacle and subsequent waning of their power.
Exactly twenty-eight days into the Via Nocturna is the second biggest celebration of the Fae, and the most important to the Unseelie: Oíche Shamhna. It’s a night of revelry, feasting, and offering. The Winter is coming, a long, bitter time during which even the Fae can struggle. Even the Fae can feel cold and the pangs of hunger if the previous harvests haven’t yielded enough. So, they celebrate what they have and make offerings of it to the Greater Powers.
It's also a time of mischief. Masquerading has become a tradition to hide the identities of those pranking (or worse) others. The day’s been spent preparing for the feast and the giant bonfire that will light their way ‘til dawn. Music and dancing will fill the night, joy and gluttony from sunset to sunrise. It’s a time Kellan enjoys because, even if everyone knows his identity, on this night they pretend they don’t.
As the festivities begin, he finds himself wandering through the flickering lamp lights, by vendors hawking wares, tables burdened with drink and food. He’s dressed in his usual white; a simple robe decorated with shimmering crystals and beads, a fanciful headdress reminiscent of a halo, and a wire mask. Nearby him, of course, his loyal and beloved Suho and Sumin.
no subject
But Kellan, he loves them. He cares for them. He seems to grow concerned if either of them show even the smallest signs of discomfort. He's there for both of them and he loves them. Real love. The kind that they'd both been missing from their lives. Though he may never ask it of either of them, they would do absolutely anything for him. They chose the darkness for him. And they would do it again.
Sumin sticks closer to Kellan as they walk, but Suho? Not quite as close. He eagerly bounces from vendor to vendor, asking questions about their selections of food and drink to show interest. And to figure out what he might take back to Kellan for him to try. And Sumin, of course.
Always Sumin. Especially after he let Suho talk him into letting Yileana dress the both of them for the festivities. Suho never minds it so much but, while Sumin allows it, it's one of his least favourite things. Suho thought it might be a nice idea, though. It would make her happy, thus making Kellan happy and all it would mean is just a few hours of discomfort for Sumin. Suho would even go first so Yileana could do any fasion experimentation on him, and then she could just copy it to Sumin! The only request was that they would have some similarities to their Kellan.
They're both in pants and jackets that bear a striking resemblance to Kellan's beautiful robe, though Suho's is pitch back, making the crystals and beads look like a field of stars, and Sumin's is a deep red, giving the illusion of a blazing sun. Their masks, too, reflect the day and night motif. Suho's being an ornate wire mask of the moon and Sumin's being of the sun.
Suho hops back to his brother and their lover, taking Kellan's hand in his. "I love this time of the year, don't you? This day, specifically. I think it's my favourite."
no subject
While Suho bounds off to interrogate each of the vendors to find the very best items for his brother and his Prince, Kellan slips his fingers between Sumin's. At least this event isn't some formal affair of the Court. There is nothing keeping them out among the folk any longer than they wish to be (or can tolerate to be). Kellan values that freedom as it's one he rarely has. He values it because it means more time with those who are most important to him.
As Suho wanders back toward them, Kellan's overcome with a warm smile. He's not the most emotive of Fae, but he can't help it with his beloveds. No secrets from them, not even in his heart. "This is my favorite day, as well. It's all celebration and pageantry without formality and duty." Hypothetically, because everyone is masked, no one would know if the members of the Royal Family didn't make an appearance.
@conturbatus
When he meets Seong outside the young man's apartment, Matthias is dressed in red velvet from head to toe. It's topped off with a pair of corny devil horns, a tail, and a plastic pitchfork. He truly considered just wearing a red leotard but... on the likely chance he and Seong decide to get frisky somewhere tonight, well, that would be hard to get in and out of quickly.
"C'mon! I mapped out where some of the best parties will be."
no subject
And then he got older and started going to Halloween parties with his friends instead. His enjoyment of those was all over the place. Some he enjoyed well enough, some he actively hated. Sometimes he joined the party about as much as Seong joins any party (which isn't much but), sometimes he ended up sitting in the corner alone, scrolling on his phone, and sometimes he ended up in the corner not so alone.
He knows that it's not actually Halloween that's the culprit here, but association is a funny thing sometimes. Maybe spending the night crashing parties with Matthias will have him thinking more positively about Halloween again.
Though he was given a good amount of notice, Seong's costume still looks pretty thrown together. Which is accurate because that's exactly what he did. He's got a pot on his head that has long since been destined for the trash and a piece of cardboard stapled to an old shirt that just has the word 'HOLE' written on it in black Sharpie. Pot hole. It's funny!
Stepping out of his apartment, Seong has to just take a moment to look over Matthias. Some people look really tacky in head to toe velvet but Matthias looks amazing. Not that Seong's particularly surprised. And the accessories just really sell it. If possible, Seong's just found a whole new level of attraction to his boyfriend.
"One second." Seong wraps his arms around Matthias and presses his face against his boyfriend's chest. He's so soft to go along with how wonderfully warm he always is. He nuzzles against Matthias' velvety chest for a bit before finally releasing him. "Okay. I'm ready now."
no subject
Maybe someday this whole actually liking your boyfriend will get old to them. But it's not this day! The little pause to nuzzle leave Matthias smiling for a whole different reason. Only when Seong pulls away does Matthias drop an arm over his shoulder, a common gesture when they're out together. A way to show the world that Seong is his at a glance.
"Had to mark your territory first, hm?"

Annnnnd... Jongwoo's wandered off when Seokyoon wasn't looking!
He isn't surprised; Jongwoo has a habit of wandering off. That's what scares him. When Jongwoo wanders off like this, it's sometimes days before Seokyoon sees him again. Of course, because the theme is Halloween, no one pays much attention to a young man rushing around in a panic looking for someone. An actor on the cast, obviously. Never mind that all Seokyoon's panic is real and he's near to tears.
no subject
Jongwoo didn't mean to wander away from his dear Seokyoon this time. He would actually prefer to be as near to Seokyoon as he can get, as often as possible. No, he was lured away from Seokyoon by a ghost. Not the kind they have dangling from the trees but the real kind. The kind that haunts him with what he is and what he used to be. He hears Moonjo wax poetic about the monster Jongwoo's become. He watches as Moonjo disappears behind a group of people with that sadistic smile and he can't help but chase after him. To prevent him from hurting those people? To help him? To cut them open alongside the man who made him?
He's deep in the corn maze when he realizes that he's nowhere near Seokyoon. It's just Jongwoo and a sea of unfamiliar faces. A slightly panicked Jongwoo surrounded by nothing but strangers.

His excitement and over all lack of a sense of timing means that Aqua arrives a little early. When Snake arrives, Aqua is sitting on the edge of someone's lawn (not in costume) and watching all of the trick-or-treaters pass by with just the brightest smile on his face, waving to a few and chatting with others. Mostly just to comment on how cute they look, since he doesn't want to keep them from their treat-focused goal for the evening.
