That's a downright terrifying thought.

(( Not the profusion of nature, the part about gods going mad. Who can say if it's a possibility or if it's happened before. Maybe that last Earthly extinction event wasn't the randomness of the universe but some mad, sad, or bored gad deciding they wanted a reset. Could it really be that easy? Ah, my kind are very flexible when compared to other traditions that have named gods among their higher beings. There are fixed figures among us, of course - creators, the sun and moon, familiar faces to any pantheon - but as for myself, my dominion has changed countless times as the needs of my people have grown and evolved.

That's an astute comparison. The simplest explanation I can offer in terms of modern science is that we're beings of pure energy, which allows us to access potential that's generally off-limits for those with a permanent physical form. Except, as you pointed out, across generations.
