A warm smile settles and he nods. "Thank you, Thoth," he chirps as if that god is right there to hear him. Can he not? Is that not how it works with these ancient gods? Even when they were more active in the world, Lucas had little occasion to interact a great deal with them.
That brightness quickly fades, replaced by thoughtful concern. "Setekh," he repeats carefully. "Disorder and storms." There's a pause during which Lucas' expression becomes completely blank. It snaps back into focus just as suddenly as it went out. "Is he trying to renew his power through believers?"
This is the point at which Osiris would usually say I suspect so or it seems that way but really, who is he kidding? No one understands his brother's motives better than the god who died for them.
"Yes. And I can guarantee that he plans either to scapegoat or sacrifice Lucifer if his power is allowed to grow great enough. Set does not share power."
Interesting. Lucifer definitely won't take betrayal well, real or perceived. Lucas remembers that much about him. And that could definitely lead to a problem that will involve more than just him and the handful of angels currently on Earth.
He cocks he head to one side, eyes wide and round. "And... whose side am I supposed to be sympathizing with?" Does he really want to do something to help a brother who walked away and discarded everything? But Set could be an even worse problem if he's allowed to gain too much power; a problem even Heaven can't turn a blind eye to.
"Whose side?" Osiris looks genuinely puzzled for a moment, until he plays his own words back in his head and realizes how much context is missing. "Oh, I may not have been clear - Set betrayed our pantheon and his family long, long ago. We stand in opposition to him and to Lucifer. If you're inclined to sympathize with any side, I would hope you choose ours."
"Ooooooh! That makes more sense now!" Yes, that important fact wasn't presented with the rest. But Lucas also has a hard time picking out those things which are explicitly brought to him. Reading between the lines isn't a skill he's ever had to learn.
"So you want to learn more about the adversary you don't know, is that right? I wish I had more to offer. Lucifer moves with purpose, but what that purpose is? That's only known to himself."
"Well, I did hope to learn more about him, yes... but I don't think that's all you have to offer us, if you're willing to help." Osiris smiles, faint and polite but with genuine friendliness. "Would you mind if we stay in touch? There's bound to be more and more issues arising during this conflict that I could better understand with your counsel."
A thought occurs to him suddenly and his smile grows warmer, a new light also twinkling in his eyes.
"And I'm not sure if this is strictly allowed, but I also happen to be working with a priest and exorcist who's endured quite a bit of suffering both before and during this conflict. I think it might go a long way toward easing the pain in his heart if he could share a word or two with an angel."
"Of course we can stay in touch!" Lucas doesn't hesitate to pull his wallet from his back pocket and offer Osiris his calling card. It's simple enough with just his name, phone number, and email address. "You can call me any time!" He'll definitely help where he can.
Oh, but that shift in Osiris' expression combined with the ask. Maybe Lucas isn't as bad at reading between the lines as he thinks. It definitely looks like this god's sweet on this exorcist. That's all sorts of not allowed.
"Um, that's... You know he's not supposed to do that, right?" Do that being you, Osiris. "It's against the rules."
Listen, Osiris has no idea of the energy he's giving off right now. He hasn't had fresh romantic feelings to cope with since he was betrothed to Isis. He blinks at Lucas in confusion and, when he can't think of anything else, decides that Lucas must mean direct contact with an angel.
"Ah, I see. That's a shame, but I can see the wisdom in restricting contact with your earthly workers to specific contexts."
Not a single clue. He barely even understands the profundity of his own feelings right now.
"I'm very glad to have met you, Lucas. This has been an enlightening conversation."
Poor guy. Not even aware of his crush. It's kind of cute. Sadly, Lucas isn't the only one to notice it. Damn spies everywhere, apparently.
"My boss likes belief to more of a faith thing than a fact thing." There's a slight hint in Lucas' tone that could imply he doesn't necessarily agree with that practice, but what can he do about it? Lucifer wasn't just a rebel, he was a lesson to all the other loyal angels.
"Feel to contact me if you need anything or have more questions. I'll do the same."
