Halloween. The entire town stays mostly closed to it every year, only opening their doors if someone is truly in need of something. They have only the morning and the afternoon to get the town ready, after all. Lights and other decorations. Food and beverage stalls. Sweets and trinkets for the children, as well as activities they can partake in to keep themselves busy (as well as to work off the energy from all that sugar). They put together live music and clear away an area where people can dance. They find a safe space to have a bonfire. It's a lot to put together in about half a day.

Probably the most taxing task, however, belongs to the one person every year who's chosen to go deep into the woods to the dragon's river, and convince him to join in the festivities.

Every year, Nam refuses. Some years, he goes anyway. Every year, he mentions the festival to a certain bird and some years, he goes just in case that certain bird shows up. Of course it's not just about Gaja as Nam does like to occasionally be near the people he's gotten to know over the years in a more relaxed setting, but it's also not not about Gaja.

It's just after dark when Nam emerges from the woods and makes his way into town. Nam immediately stands out among the festival attendees, as he is not in costume as they are, but he is most certainly dressed up. His penchant for long, flowing clothing strikes once again with bold make up around his eyes continues the red and gold motif. Perhaps most striking of all is that he's not sporting his usual long, ashy blond hair but rather something shorter. And bright red.

Please make no mention of the fiery bird appearance he seems to have crafted.

If (when) Gaja arrives, he'll find Nam near the bonfire, complimenting costumed children on their choice of attire, paying special attention to those who've chosen to come to the festival as dragons.

Surprise, Nam! This year, the bird kept better track of the changing seasons and managed to arrive at the village near his friend's river long before the festival Nam mentions every year began. It could be luck. Gaja spends so much of his time up above the world, it's hard to gauge the seasons. But this year, recalling Nam mentioning it time and time again, he shows up.

Coincidentally, Gaja foregoes his usually golds and fiery colors for celebratory events in favor of shimmering blues and silvers (reminiscent of a certain dragon's scales in the water). Despite his dislike of the cooler temperatures, he chose something thin and ethereal with understated makeup (bearing a touch of his gold). While Nam's hair is bright and fiery, Gaja's has begun to fade. Is it getting close to that time already? You'd never guess it from the way he positively lights up when he sees Nam.

"Your hair!!" Insert Spiderman pointing meme here.

Nam tends to have a decent enough time keeping track of the seasons based not only on the changing weather that he must stay aware of, but also on the holidays and festivals that take place in them. The town his river is closest to celebrates every one of them and the townspeople always ask him to join in the festivities. Or rather a small selection is made to ask. It's almost amusing how every other day, they'll ask him for all manner of things without question or hesitation, but when the time comes to invite him to a celebration, they get nervous. It's likely because they know they're off to try to talk Nam into doing something he so rarely likes to do. Their anxiousness has some merit to it.

Looking down at and quietly speaking with some small children who are petting and admiring his clothing, Nam shoos them away when he notices Gaja's approach. He's initially thrown off by Gaja's clothing choice. It's unlike what Nam's come to expect from him and far closer to something that Nam, himself, might choose. He looks absolutely stunning in the blues and silvers (the similarities to the colours of his own natural form don't escape him), especially with the way his hair has begun to fade. Gaja often tries to hide it but Nam's always thought it looks wonderful on him.

"In the spirit of the festival, I thought I might change my appearance a little." As though a dragon appearing a human isn't enough of a change already. "What do you think?"

Nam is biased since he first met Gaja as a pale blond thing. Gaja much prefers his fiery plumage to the faded colors of his later life. But, he knows Nam likes it so this time he opted not to cover it.

Gaja also knows that Nam likes compliments (who doesn't, really?). SO to make sure he gives one that's genuine, Gaja looks him over once more, really focusing on his choice of colors. "You look as brilliant as the sunset over the sea, my friend."
