❝ Winter Wonderland ❞

{ i wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? }

That's it, that's the post. It's here for all your cozy, hygge, wintry RP dreams. Here are some ideas:
  • snow: first snow of the season/ever, making snowpeople, forts, or snow angels, snowball fights, snowed in
  • warm: hot drinks, warm blankets, crackling fires, busting out the winter coats and socks, baking in a cozy kitchen
  • holidays: decorating, picking out a tree, preparing the big holiday meal, exchanging gifts
  • activities: shopping, cooking, sledding, ice skating, cuddling with someone special
  • new year: par-tay!, toast, countdown, midnight kiss

Much like his beloved, human holidays never really piqued Elyas' interest. He'd often been rather interested in the smells wafting from the grand meals they prepared, but he never really cared for the occasion. That is until they started to put up twinkling lights and pretty decorations. Each and every one of them demanded the fox's attention and he happily gave in. Lights that flash and ones that cascade, twinkling and glittering, all sorts of wonderful colours. Though they'll never be flowers in the sunlight, the humans' bright Christmas displays feel as close as he can get to showing his vampire the vibrant daytime world.

(Elyas does get to see the displays first, but during the day they're dull and uninteresting. Not at all beautiful and alive like they are at night)

While the full winter coat of his natural form offers some resistance to the cold even when he appears human, it's his near boundless energy that keeps him warm tonight as he pulls Laurent from house to house, showing off all of their lights as though he'd put them up himself. Whether it's a single string of lights along the edge of a rooftop or a full display of thousands of lights and a yard full of decorations, Elyas proudly shows them to Laurent. Each is lovely in their own way and all deserve his adoration.

"Oh! I'll take you to my most favourite now!" Elyas was never a believer in saving the best for last. He gets far too excited for that. So he takes his vampire's hand and gently tugs him further up the street, though he does stop to give each decorated house along the way its share of his attention. Then, in front of one house in particular, the gumiho stops dead in his tracks and bounces excitedly on the balls of his feet while squeezing his beloved's hand.

"Isn't it the most beautiful Christmas display you've ever seen?"

Compared to some of the other houses, it isn't. It's decorated quite nicely, but there is a place not more than two houses away that has a truly wondrous Christmas display. By comparison, this one is perfectly average. Lights along the trim and lining the front step and their side deck, light-up snowmen and Santa Claus and some reindeer. It has strings of lights haphazardly throw up and around some trees. What Elyas doesn't point out, though, and instead waits for Laurent to notice is the one thing that drew him to this house in particular: a cute Christmasy fox decoration sitting on the side deck, all brightly lit up like it wanted to be sure it would be seen by the clearly enamoured gumiho.

Indeed each of the houses is beautiful in its own way: from the simplest to the most ornate. Ever since the invention of these electric lights, Laurent has enjoyed these winter holidays much more. Even more in part thanks to Elyas' enthusiasm. His precious little fox is so easily excitable and he adores sharing in what brings the gumiho joy. It's Elyas' wonder for the world that makes Laurent feel like he still is a part of it all. That he's still alive.

He expresses his quiet and subtle delight at each house Elyas brings him to, sharing momentarily in each moment of happiness. Right until they stop in front of the one Elyas declares as his favorite. It takes only a few seconds for his eyes to find the reason why: the pretty little Christmas fox.

"Ah," he sighs with the fainest note of mirth. "That vixen has stolen my beloved's heart."

For as long as Elyas lives, Laurent will remain a part of the daylight world. Through his fox, he will always be alive. He can't exactly take his vampire out into the sunlight, but he can bring the sunlight to him. He can bring him stories of daylight adventure and the feeling of his sun warmed skin. And with the way humans have advanced over the years, Elyas can bring him photos and videos. They can hardly compare to the real thing, but they provide a nice visual aid when Elyas starts to regale his love with stories of his adventures throughout the day.

As they stand before the house, Elyas turns to Laurent, his bouncing turning to full on hopping in place, and both of his hands now clutching his beloved's. All while he waits for- There it is. The very moment Laurent opens his mouth to speak, Elyas lets out a nervous laugh and shyly buries his face against the vampire's arm.

"That's ridiculous. You're the only one who's ever been able to steal my heart." He turns his head just enough to peer at the decoration while his face is still pressed into Laurent. "She is very cute though, isn't she?"

Elyas is the light of his life, figuratively and nearly literally. He brings light to Laurent with his exuberance, his lust for life, and his sun-kissed skin always so brief but so welcome against Laurent's perpetually cold flesh. It's been so long since Laurent's seen daylight, Elyas is the very best substitute. He may as well be the sun itself in Laurent's eyes.

A subtle smile kicks up the corners of his lips at Elyas' shyness. Smiling down at his fox, the vampire reaches one hand up to stroke that blazing red hair. His fingers ghost across the gumiho's cheek, slipping under his chin to til his face up.

"Would you like her?"

Elyas lifts his head a little in response to Laurent stroking his hair, trying to press it up into his hand. The animal urge to be petted more by the one most precious to him. Then those cool fingers brush his cheek and his eyes flutter a little before falling closed. Oh but it's not for long though. The fingers moving beneath his chin, the gentle tilting up of his face, his vampire is clearly requesting his attention. And who is he to deny a request from the beautiful creature?

Grey eyes stare up at Laurent right up until he poses his question. Then, the gumiho disappears from sight. He's directly behind the vampire, face pressed into the middle of his back and sneaky arms poking out from either side to wrap around Laurent's middle.

"I couldn't," he mumbles into Laurent's back, shaking his head against him. "She belongs to someone else." Oh but he does want her. He's dying to have her. A beautiful little thing to stare at all day until his vampire awakens and gives him something absolutely radiant to stare at all night.

Belongs to somebody? Laurent could snort. Who in this entire would is more important than Elyas? Who's happiness could possibly matter more than this gumiho's? No one, that's who.

But, he pauses a moment to consider. He could replace her for whomever this person is. Surely as long as they have a Christmas fox, it wouldn't matter. But Elyas loves this Christmas fox. No other will do.

"If I replace her?"

"She's irreplaceable." He tightens his arms around the vampire's middle and presses his face more firmly into Laurent's back. She's irreplaceable to him so he simply assumes that her humans have the same attachment to her. She's just so pretty and appealing and the light she gives off is so beautiful. How could her humans not be attached to her? Normally, he would have little issue with taking from the humans (they wouldn't think twice about taking from him if given even half a chance) but there's something about this particular decoration that makes it feel wrong to take.

And yet.

Elyas fists his hands in Laurent's jacket. "I do want her, though..." he mumbles against the vampire's back.

With Laurent's inhuman strength and speed, he could easily slip away from Elyas' grip to fetch the much beloved fox. But out of respect for his lover, he does no such thing.

"You know better than most how shallow human attachments can be." Not to say they didn't get attached, but compared to them? Human attachments were so fleeting.

"Let me go and I'll get her for you."

Humans cast things aside so easily. They'll toss something aside and feel no remorse simply because they don't want something anymore. People, animals, objects, it doesn't matter. Disloyal, awful creatures. This sweet Christmas ornament that they have on display is likely something that won't see another season. She'll get tucked away in a dark corner of the basement or packed into the back of a garage and then forgotten about. But Elyas wouldn't forget her. And he would love her until there was nothing left to love.

Humans attachments are nothing compared to them.

Elyas pulls his arms away from Laurent and takes a step back from his vampire, though not before giving him a gentle, playful nudge forward. "Go and get her for me so we can take her to her new home."

That little nudge pulls a quiet chuckle from the vampire. He knows his beloved well enough to know when he truly wants something. And this little fox decoration? Oh, how Elyas wants her. Perhaps the humans will miss her, but their loss will be briefly lived. As will their attachment to her.

With a speed the human eye cannot perceived, Laurent dashes toward the porch to unplug and collect the fox decoration for Elyas. Elyas alone might see the movement, but no one else nearby would. As quickly as he's gone, Laurent returns to his beloved gumiho's side, grabbing his hand and bidding him, "Run!"

Elyas wants her so badly, but he was trying to be mindful... Well, not so much of the humans but rather their children. He doesn't like to disappoint them if he can help it. But if they have any particular attachment to the decoration, surely it can be lessened once she's replaced. Or forgotten about entirely should they just happen to get the chance to befriend a real fox.

For Elyas, it really does need to be this one. He already knows the particular glow of her lights and the feel of the bit of heat they throw off. He knows her smell and could easily pick her out of other decorations that are identical in everything but shape. It needs to be this one. He's grown attached to this one. Laurent was right to insist he take her for his fox.

Bouncing on the balls of his feet, Elyas excitedly watches as his love darts over to grab his newest love. Laurent moves inhumanly fast and yet Elyas feels like he's waiting for ages. After what feels like years of being apart, Laurent returns to his side with the beautiful little Christmas fox. He squeaks in surprise when his beloved grabs his hand and they start to run from the scene of the crime.

This crime is so very small compared to what Laurent could and would do for Elyas. Truly, anything. There is nothing he wouldn't do for his precious fox. If stealing a Christmas decoration is the worst thing he did in a week, well, it's a good week. Even as they run, Laurent is planning to replace it for this family, for the sake of any children who might be saddened by the loss of their Christmas fox.

If only their sadness would be lessened by knowing she's going to be loved and protected forever. She'll have to say indoors lest the criminals be discovered, though. Or perhaps in the spring, she could adorn their gardens.

Laurent doesn't stop running until they've reached the door of their home. Even then, he's breathless and laughing. How spontaneous, what they've done!

"Wherever do you want her to live, my love?"
