Ah, my kind are very flexible when compared to other traditions that have named gods among their higher beings. There are fixed figures among us, of course - creators, the sun and moon, familiar faces to any pantheon - but as for myself, my dominion has changed countless times as the needs of my people have grown and evolved.

[Inari smiles, warm and good-natured.]

I am no more and no less than one who can grant the people what they require to survive and thrive, if they be willing to humble themselves and ask. Well, and offer a little something in return, but I like to think I'm not overly greedy.

(( Interesting. And smart, actually. Assuming most deities are bound to the same sort of linear experience of time as humans are, how any any foresee how their people might change? ))

I believe our scientists might call that evolution.

That's an astute comparison. The simplest explanation I can offer in terms of modern science is that we're beings of pure energy, which allows us to access potential that's generally off-limits for those with a permanent physical form. Except, as you pointed out, across generations.

[Something shifts in Inari's smile, grows more intimate than Emmanuel will probably like - he's kept himself in line until now, but he can't keep from flirting forever. It's just in his veins.]

I must confess, I have a weakness for taking physical form - the pleasures offered by a tangible body are second to none. [Wiiink. Even though he mostly means food. Mostly.]
